It may have been an incredibly difficult year for the restaurant industry during the last 12 months but the serious food guide for serious food lovers, The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland has just launched their 2021 list.

The Michelin guide has been with us since the end of the 1800's and has become a Worldwide best-seller for those who appreciate fine food. The guide now rates over 30,000 restaurants across three continents.

Monmouthshire is renowned for it's fine food and fine dining and this has been confirmed by listing 8 of our superb local restaurants in the 2021 Michelin guide.

The Whitebrook

Whitebrook, NP25 4TX

You may need to venture out a little to get to this remote valley setting, but the trip is definitely worth the effort.

This rustic restaurant is charming, peaceful and a firm favourite for local foodies who adore this destination restaurant

In comparison to the rest of the list, The Gaff is the new kid on the block, but in no time at all it has become a centre of culinary excellence. Tucked away in a stunning converted courtyard, the restaurant is a hidden jewel in Abergavenny. The style of food is small plate and the pricing is reasonable.

Newbridge on Usk

The Newbridge on Usk is over 200 years old stands on a stunning location overlooking the River Usk, at Tredunnock. With a beautiful restaurant and terrace it is a wonderful part of the county to enjoy good food in a beautiful surroundings. The Bell at Skenfrith is a former 17th century Welsh coaching inn and has been transformed over the years to become a renowned pub, restaurant and a boutique hotel. The Bell is located next to the river Monnow and can be found on the Wales/England border. Surrounded by stunning countryside, this charming restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

Rockfield, Monmouth, NP25 5SW

Not far outside Monmouth, you'll find this 16th Century cider mill transformed in a stylish yet rustic restaurant with exposed timbers and an old millstone on display at its centre. With a mix of British and Welsh cuisines this restaurant will blow you away.

Walnut Tree

Incredible Chef, Shaun Hill, has been at the helm for over 20 years and has created a sensational restaurant on the edge of Abergavenny. The Walnut Tree is real food connoisseur’s restaurant and never fails to impress with it's first class cooking with only the very best ingredients. Oh and don't forget the wine list too.

On the outskirts of Abergavenny, you'll find the beautiful 1861 Restaurant. The restaurant building itself was strangely enough built in 1861 and hence it became the restaurant quirky name. Chef, Simon King, who has previously worked at some of the best Michelin Starred restaurants in the country, has bought his unique style to creating a stunning menu in stunning surroundings.

Parva Farmhouse

Riverside, Tintern, NP16 6SQ, United Kingdom

Not far from the historic Tintern Abbey, you'll find this beautiful little restaurant. Set in a 17th-century former farmhouse just metres from the banks of the River Wye, Parva Farmhouse is an outstanding restaurant with rooms. The restaurant itself has only been running for a couple of years so to become part of the Michelin Guide is a stunning acheivement.
