Monmouthshire County Council review 20mph speed limit - What did they conclude?

Monmouthshire County Council has reviewed the 20mph speed limits across the county following feedback from residents. This comes after the Welsh Government updated its guidelines on where 30mph limits might still be appropriate.

20mph Speed Limits Monmouthshire

The council received nearly 1,500 responses, with suggestions to restore 30mph on 143 roads. After a detailed review, four key roads were assessed: B4245 (Magor, Undy, Rogiet, Caldicot), Hereford Road (Abergavenny), A4143 (Abergavenny), and A4077 Abergavenny Road (Gilwern). However, based on the latest safety guidelines, the council has decided to keep the 20mph limits in place.

Councillor Catrin Maby thanked residents for their feedback and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to road safety. While some may have hoped for changes, the decision prioritises safer streets for everyone, particularly pedestrians and cyclists.
