THE owners of an Abergavenny opticians have raised more than £2,000 for charity by shaving their heads.
Optometrist, Jane Truscott and Aimee Powell, practice manager of The Optic Shop on St John’s Street, were inspired to chop off their locks last Saturday (February 13) to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Ms Truscott and Ms Powell were inspired to shave their heads in support of someone close to them, who was diagnosed with cancer ten years ago, after learning that the cancer returned last year.
Ms Truscott said: “ Throughout 2020, he has been treated in various ways, but it has now come to chemotherapy, and within three weeks of his first session he began to lose his hair.”
“I know this happens to all, but to him this was always a big deal. We always said ‘if he loses his hair, so do we.”
Due to the current Covid19 restrictions they held the Brave the Shave behind closed doors at the practice but were able to video their fundraiser.
Just two days after they shaved their heads the fundraising total past the initial £1,000 target and reached £2,000 and now stands at £2,300.
Commenting on their fundraising page, the ladies said: “Wow, we just hit £2,000. Thank you so much. Xxx”
