75th Anniversary of VE Day

75th Anniversary of VE Day

Friday 8 May 2020, marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day, and gives the chance to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of the entire Second World War generation, from British, Commonwealth and Allied Forces to evacuees and those who served on the home front.

A number of events, celebrations and parties had been planned in anticipation of the anniversary, but have now been cancelled following the pandemic.

The Royal British Legion are, however, playing a central role in the celebrations and ensuring the anniversary is marked with series of events planned for Friday

  • National moments of Remembrance and thanksgiving, including a Two Minute Silence
  • A UK-wide singalong to Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again at 9pm
  • An evening of memories and music BBC from 8pm on BBC One

Have you got anything planned for Friday ? A little party at home or maybe a social distanced street party? Let us know via our Monmouthshire Life Facebook group.
